The Voyager Golden Record
The question
What is on the Golden Record carried by NASA's two Voyager probes?
- The complete works of Shakespeare
- Sounds, music and pictures of Earth(correct answer)
- The flag of every country on Earth
The answer: Sounds, music and pictures of Earth
Each Voyager probe, launched in 1977, carries a 12-inch gold-plated phonograph record whose contents were chosen by a committee chaired by Carl Sagan. It holds natural sounds such as surf, thunder, birds and whales, 90 minutes of music from many cultures, 115 images, and spoken greetings in 55 languages. Symbols engraved on its cover explain how to play it.
